Access Statement: Swallow View and Nuthatch Cottages

The Approach

The cottage is located on the hillside overlooking the A484 main road and the Gwili Valley. The road leading to it is council maintained, a long hill with varying gradients along it's length. Once in the farmyard the ground is reasonably level within the surrounding area of the cottage.

Parking

This is directly outside the cottage within 4 metres.

Car Park

The surface is stone chippings. Outside the cottage there is ample parking space for 2 cars.

Outside Access

There is a heat sensitive security light directly outside the cottage. Once through the wooden gate the surface to the cottage is flat concrete.
There is 1 concrete step and then another step into the cottage. The door is wooden, a mid brown colour with a lever type handle.
An extra wide doorway for wheelchair access, but there is no ramp.

Inside Access

All internal doors are approx. 830mm wide, wood with grab handle and a ball catch, push open type fastening, except for the shower room which has a lever type handle.
The whole of the cottage floor area is on one level, the kitchen lounge and dining areas have tiled floors and there is a large rug covering the lounge area. Both bedrooms have tiled floors with rugs. The shower room and toilet also have tiled floors.

Open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area

The kitchen worktop is at the approx. height of 900mm in a light marble effect colour with a dark brown electric hob top. The oven has a drop down door at the height of approx. 200mm when down, the controls are waist height on the front. The chrome sink taps are a mixer type with two knobs. The dining area has wheelchair access on one short end and one long side of the table, the other two sides have fixed wooden corner bench seating. The sitting area has two large two-seater sofas and a coffee table, all moveable.

Bedrooms

The double bedroom has no side clearance for a wheelchair. The bedroom with two single beds has no clearance for a wheelchair.

Shower and toilet

There is not enough room here to adapt for a wheelchair user. The walls are a light with white basin and toilet with antique pine toilet seat, the basin and shower taps are the knob type, the shower tray has a step up into a glass shower cubicle.

All power points are either above skirting height or higher.

All light switches could be reached by a wheelchair user.
